Declare Yourself

Declare Yourself is a national, nonprofit, nonpartisan campaign that energizes new movements of young voters to participate in presidential elections. Through empowerment, entertainment, information and technology, Declare Yourself will challenge all Americans between the ages of 18 and 29, especially first-time voters, to find his or her reason to register and to vote.

 

Rock the Vote
Rock the Vote is a non-profit, non-partisan organization, founded in 1990 in response to a wave of attacks on freedom of speech and artistic expression. They engage youth in the political process by incorporating the entertainment community and youth culture into its activities.

 

The League of Women Voters
The League of Women Voters of the United States is strictly nonpartisan; it neither supports nor opposes candidates for office at any level of government. At the same time, the League is wholeheartedly political - working to influence policy through education and advocacy. It is the original grassroots citizen network, directed by the consensus of its members nationwide.

 

The Federal Voting Assistance Program
The Federal Voting Assistance Program, as part of the federal government, informs and educates U.S. citizens worldwide of their right to vote, to foster voting participation, and to protect the integrity of, and simultaneously enhance, the electoral process at the Federal, State and local levels. If you are stationed or living abroad, they can help you figure out how to vote absentee. So don’t say you didn’t know how to get a ballot!

 

The National Organization on Disability (N.O.D.)
The National Organization on Disability (N.O.D.) seeks to expand the participation and contribution of America’s 54 million men, women and children with disabilities in all aspects of life. They attempt to raise disability awareness through programs and information and close the participation gaps. Check out their page on voting.

 

Head Count

Head Count is a volunteer-based organization that is unleashing an aggressive and highly publicized voter registration drive targeting fans of live, improvisational music. They are a strictly nonpartisan organization with no ties to any individual party, candidate, or ideology. HeadCount is chaired by Marc Brownstein, the bassist for The Disco Biscuits, and Andy Bernstein, founder of the Phish fan's guide The Pharmer's Almanac.

Voter March
Voter March began on November 14, 2000, as four founding members organizing people who wanted to express their opposition to the irregularities and egregious conduct of Election 2000 and the direction in which an illegitimate administration is taking the country. As an internet-based grass-roots group, having logged over one million hits to its website since November 2000, Voter March has various national Voter eGroups and eGroups in all 50 states, with an online community of over 10,000 activists. Voter March organized major national demonstrations to protest the disenfranchisement of voters in Election 2000 and the highly partisan U.S. Supreme Court decision which selected the President.

 

Motor Voter
Motor Voter makes voter registration simple, quick, and more accessible, Thanks to the National Voter Registration Act, known as the "motor voter" law, registering to vote is more convenient than ever before. Now, all states (Minnesota, North Dakota, Wyoming and Wisconsin are exempt from the law) must allow citizens to register to vote by mail and must accept a universal mail-in voter registration form designed by the Federal Election Commission (FEC). The form makes voter registration an easy, one-step process. Just complete the form, mail it to the election official in your state and you will be notified when you are registered. The application form is accompanied by instructions that explain the information you must provide to register in your state.

 

Project Vote Smart
Project Vote Smart (PVS) provides a comprehensive database about thousands of candidates and elected officials for President, Congress, Governors and State Legislators. Less detailed information is available at the county and local level for each state. They are nonpartisan and non-profit.

 

Youth Vote Coalition
Youth Vote Coalition is a national, nonpartisan coalition of diverse organizations established to increase participation, build responsive government, and promote awareness. It is the nation's largest non-partisan coalition working to increase the political involvement of 50 million Americans, 18-30 years old. The Youth Vote Coalition consists of over one hundred diverse national organizations representing hundreds of organizations and millions of young people.

 

The New Voters Project
The New Voters Project is a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing voter turnout among citizens age 18-24. They increase voter turnout in this target age group each year by registering voters, knocking on doors, going to the places where young people hang out, and organizing on college campuses.

 

Music for America
Music for America is a nonpartisan, political non-profit working to turn out this generation at the polls. By exposing the connection between cultural lives and politics, they are getting this generation to participate in the political process on all levels - whether that means volunteering for a campaign, organizing a local MfA chapter, or just going to a show and having a conversation with some friends.

 

Vote, Run, Lead
Vote, Run, Lead is a national nonpartisan mobilization initiative to activate young American women to engage in political participation -- from voting to running for political office -- through a multi-state cultural performance and political leadership training tour; a comprehensive political engagement and leadership empowerment website; a widespread awareness campaign using multimedia public service announcements; and an extensive grassroots organizing campaign.

 

America Votes
America Votes is a new coalition of many of the largest membership-based groups in the country, who have come together to increase voter registration, education and participation in electoral politics. This historic partnership represents a combined membership of more than 20 million Americans in every state in the country. Groups that are part of America Votes work on a broad range of issues including environmental protection, education, human and civil rights, women's rights, choice and labor.

The National Coalition on Black Civic Participation, Inc.
The National Coalition on Black Civic Participation, Inc. was founded in 1976 on the principle of the yet unfulfilled realization of a full democracy. A nonprofit, nonpartisan, membership organization, the National Coalition is dedicated to increasing African American participation in civil society. The National Coalition on Black Civic Participation envisions a nation in which all citizens from children to seniors, have the tools to participate fully in the democratic process at the local, state, national and global levels.

 

Choose or Lose
Choose or Lose is a campaign sponsored by MTV to help mobilize millions of young adults aged 18 to 30 to vote in U.S. elections. This call to action has been adopted as an achievable goal and a diverse coalition of innovative youth organizations, including Rock the Vote, Hip-Hop Team Vote, WWE’s Smackdown Your Vote!, New Voters Project, Declare Yourself, and more than 100 organizations in the Youth Vote Coalition.

 

The Hip-Hop Summit Action Network
The Hip-Hop Summit Action Network (HSAN) is dedicated to harnessing the cultural relevance of Hip-Hop music to serve as a catalyst for education advocacy and other societal concerns fundamental to the well-being of at-risk youth throughout the United States. HSAN is a non-profit, non-partisan national coalition of Hip-Hop artists, entertainment industry leaders, education advocates, civil rights proponents, and youth leaders united in the belief that Hip-Hop is an enormously influential agent for social change which must be responsibly and proactively utilized to fight the war on poverty and injustice.

 

The Urban Voters Campaign
The Urban Voters Campaign began in 2000, when the Institute for the Study of Civic Values launched a Non-Voters Campaign in Philadelphia, to increase turnout in the Presidential election. The results were impressive: in 160 voting divisions where the Institute's "NonVoter Volunteers" were working, the turnout increased by 10%. The turnout in the rest of Philadelphia increased by only 3.9%.

 

Smoke the Vote
Smoke the Vote, a division of NORML. NORML is a nonprofit, public-interest lobby that for more than 30 years has provided a voice for those Americans who oppose marijuana prohibition. They represent the interests of the tens of millions of Americans who smoke marijuana responsibly and believe the recreational and medicinal use of marijuana should no longer be a crime. NORML supports the removal of all criminal penalties for the private possession and responsible use of marijuana by adults, including the cultivation for personal use, and the casual nonprofit transfers of small amounts. This model, similar to that recommended to Congress by President Nixon's esteemed Shafer Commission in 1972, is called "decriminalization."

 

LatinoVote.com
LatinoVote.com serves as an information source on politics and public policy to serve this specific population. With a population estimated at over 31 million and the top ten states with Latino population comprising 40 percent of the electoral votes for US President, the Latino population will play a decisive role in any election. The Latino Vote could decide who is the next president of the United States, and will influence many state and local elections.

 

Driving Votes
Driving Votes is a group that has focused its attention on the swing states--the ones that are the fierce political battleground where electoral votes can go either way. They are organizing people who live in those swing states to get out, hit the streets, and help register people to vote. If you don't live in a swing state, you can still help. Driving Votes also gives you the tools you need to plan a road trip to a swing state. And who doesn't love a good road trip?

 

SVREP
SVREP is committed to educate Latino communities across the Southwest about the democratic process, the importance of voter registration, and voter participation. At its core is its mission to politically empower Latinos by increasing civic engagement in the American electoral system. This can only be attained through the strengthening and exercising of the fundamental right to vote. Thus, SVREP's motto: "Su Voto Es Su Voz" (Your Vote is Your Voice).

 

Latinos Vote
Latinos Vote is a site dedicated to educating Latino voters about the upcoming election process. They hope to help first time voters, newly naturalized citizens or any other Latino who may be unfamiliar as to how the voting process works.
